Yukon First Nations Wildfire

Yukon First Nations Wildfire (YFNW) emerged from the umbrella final agreement clause on natural resource management, aiming to blend inventive approaches and ancestral Indigenous wisdom to empower its staff. It offers opportunities for Yukon and First Nations youth and fosters financial independence for its partners.

At YFNW, they go above the traditional standards, ensuring that every member of their team exceeds the type 1 standard through comprehensive training. Currently, YFNW has 9 crews, each consisting of 3-4 skilled individuals.

In 2019, YFNW was awarded the Arctic Inspiration Prize, which granted them $3.5 million in funding. This generous support has facilitated training and capacity development for firefighters in the north, as well as provided PPE, equipment, a dedicated facility, overhead, management, and more.

Today, YFNW proudly holds the position of Canada's leading private company in wildfire combat. Their current focus revolves around expanding their training programs and extending their reach to new horizons.
